People often think that summer is the best time for a family shoot but it's possible to take great pictures in winter. Coats, hats, scarfs and wellies look fun and colourful and there are plenty of backgrounds in your garden - tree trunks, log piles, brick walls and even just plain grass if you get up high enough.
These sisters were full of life and showed me their tree climbing and swing abilities making me feel very old! As the sun went down we captured some lovely shots with the light behind them. It's definitely not true that you should have people facing the sun. Not only does it make them squint it can also lead to quite 'flat' results, whereas here you'll see that the light works beautifully... highlighting each girl almost like a halo.
It's very hard to keep a shoot like this quiet (it was to be a surprise for Dad) so well done you two - I'm very impressed.
